Caves & Caverns Rent-a-GuideInfo

Caves and ...

The darkness of the caves start once the natural light of the sun disppears behind the walls of the passages. Here in the state of Quintana Roo, crawl under our feet the most extensive and complex underwater cave system. The two longest ones are located near the town of Tulum. Called respectively, Systema Sac Actun and Systema Ox Bel Ha. The total of surveyed and mapped passages in the whole Yucatan peninsula reaches easily 800 kilometers.

There are ongoing team of explorers looking for new passages and hopefully connecting one system to another to form the biggest submerged cave in the world.

Because of the complexity of these caves, the ongoing developement and human impact on the aquifer, is threatening the balance of such a fragile ecosystem.

It is not mendatory but highly recommended to hire the services of a professional local guide. As this will take you to the sites in no time and will make your trip a 'no-brainer'!

Usually the package includes, entrance fees, transportation and lunch with drinks.

... Cave diving

To be able to scuba dive in the caves, you need to be trained and equiped accordingly. It is a very hostile environement and therefore it is not for everybody to try.

But once trained and equiped, the nature will be there to reward your efforts and perseverence in becoming one of the few priviledged to see, the marvel of this prehistorical landscape.

The cavern tour done in the Mayan Riviera is unique in the world, cavern divers stay in within the natural light of the sun. To be certified as a Cavern Diver you need to take our course (PADI or IANTD) where you will learn the swiming techniques and other lines protocol that apply to cavern diving.

For the more experienced, once you've got your Cavern Diver certificacion you can take a teaser of the cave course. Its called the Intro to Cave. Basicelly it will introduce you to the cave environment and you will learn to dive with all the redundancy of the Full Cave Diver but limited in how far you can go into the cave.

And of course, if you are already certified Full Cave diver we can guide you in our favourite Cenotes!
